Behind The Lens

Location

The photograph was taken at La Cabane à sucre Chez Ti-Mousse in Papineauville, Quebec, Canada . The barrel was outside a bulding used to boil down sap to make maple syrup. The sugar bush has been with the same family for over a century.

Time

Apprioximately 7:00 pm eastern standard time on April 22, 2017. This was within a few weeks of recieving the camera that was a gift from family.

Lighting

The photograph was taken in the evening. The sun was coming in from the west. I was kneeling south facing the barrel which was north of my position by a few feet. This is natural sun light. No modifiers or diffusers.

Equipment

The camera I use is the Nikon D3400 which I recieved as a gift at the end of February 2017. The Lens is the Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm f:/3.5-5.6G kit lens at 46mm. f:5.3 1/60 second ISO 800.

Inspiration

I was walking around the3 site with family, and saw a lot of interesting subjects that had textures. I wanted to capture this image because of the rust and the old cracked wood on the aged barrel.

Editing

I tweaked the contrast, exposure, saturation of colours, exaggrated the sharpness, contrast and other parts of the image to get this effect. I wanted to bring out the textures and how weathered the barrel is.

In my camera bag

Nikon D 3400, Nikkor AF-S 18-55 kit lens, Nikon Af-S 50mm f:/1.8G prime lens, Nikkor AF-P DX 70-300mm f:/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens, One Yongnuo YN685 Speedlite with the Yongnuo YN-622N-TX YONGNUO LCD Flash Transmitter, gels, batteries, chargers, one 12 inch reflector, one GMV rgb led panel with mount and a manfrotto pixi tripod in a camera backpack
