Behind The Lens

Location

St Joseph's Cultural Center in Grass Valley, CA.

Time

Late afternoon, around 5pm.

Lighting

I love to capture things in the moment. I don't really plan out a lot of my photos unless they're of people. With the lighting in this photo, the sun was in the early part of starting to set, but these little flowers were slightly in the shade. Considering how the background was fairly dark, with deep green foliage, it was really lovely to see gentle white daisies.

Equipment

Canon Rebel T3 with an 18-55mm lens!

Inspiration

I love capturing beauty as it is. So often we like to plan everything out, but I love to see things as they are. I took this photo during the wedding reception of a dear friend of mine, and personally, it just made me enjoy the moment more. Looking back on the photo, I get the joy of reminiscing on a night that I got to celebrate two very special people.

Editing

Nope!

In my camera bag

I usually just have my camera and one lens (my 18-55mm). I don't actually have a bag of camera equipment because I'm still learning a lot, but I almost always have a journal and pens with me as well.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to get up close. Far off shots are great, but some of the best photos I've ever taken are the unstaged, in the moment ones. Also pay attention to the simplicity of the scene you're shooting. I usually prefer not to have a whole lot going on in the background of my photos unless I'm capturing a shot from further away.
