Behind The Lens

Location

Las ruinas of Punta Boriken Beach in Aguadillas Puerto Rico.

Time

The picture was taking in the we we got to las ruinas early morning. Right after the magic hour. I wanted Puerto Rico’s harsh summer sun and shadow of that hour to display TSanuah’s strong Boricua features. She truly is a warrior in her own right.

Lighting

The sun was perfect to portray Tsanuah as all Boricua women see themselves. Ruff, strong and all capable.

Equipment

My handy D7000 and a bronze color light reflector. This allowed us to use the sun to bounce a slight bronze color which is enhanced Tsnauh’s beautiful Taino skin.

Inspiration

Tsanuah features are reminiscent of our indigenous Taino people. A people who found in themselves to be one with nature and their surroundings.

Editing

Post processing was very little since maintaining Tsanuah true complexion was the goal. Also the immediate surrounding had to look as the eye see it in order to have Tsanuah be one with the environment.

In my camera bag

These days i carry my Nikon D750 my 85, 50, 35, 24mm lenses and my Nikon speed-light.

Feedback

Allow nature to speak to you first. Don’t just arrive and begin taking your photos. Go a day or two in advance by yourself. No models, no camera, no disturbances. Just you, your eyes and nature. Listening to all that nature tells you. The sound of the wind, the movement of the water, leaves etc etc. Then come back with your models and see how it all fits.
