Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken around Christmas time, when I was visiting my family in Cannonvale, Port Elizabeth.

Time

One late afternoon, I was walking along the Sundays River and the beauty of the sun's colour caught my attention. I've seen my fare share of sunsets, but this one was worth the capture.

Lighting

The streaks of colour in the clouds beckoned me outside and it kind of went from there. Natural beauty, natural light in addition to clouds, it's the best kind of lighting equipment a photographer can ask for.

Equipment

I didn't want to lose the moment. Having my camera in for repairs, I grabbed the next best thing - my phone in panorama mode. It captured nature in its prime.

Inspiration

The colour of reds and oranges mixed in the clouds - it was the view I saw from inside the house. It was a now or never kind of moment for me, not even the lack of a camera stopped me from escaping the house and 'chasing' after the sun. This sunset was like a painting that had come to life.

Editing

It was basically scanning the area and finding the right angle to shoot from. The rest was supplied by the surroundings.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Canon with a 50mm lens with me when I want to capture macro shots. If it's not by my side, my Samsung S4 Mini fills in the gap.

Feedback

Never stop admiring your surroundings. There's always hidden gems to be found. For me, personally, it's like a treasure hunt. Once found, I want to share it. People appreciate it when you show them something they did not see or think could be worth a shot. You show them a different perspective to life. A different perspective on how you see the world. Even something like a sunset can inspire someone to be creative. You inspire others with your own unique creativity.
