Location
My husband and I were traveling through Vermont to visit our daughter in New Hampshire. We stopped along the way and were struck by this beautiful fall scene. As you can see, the color was amazing and the picture just represents autumn color.Time
This picture was taken in the afternoon between 4:00 and 5:00PM EST.Lighting
The lighting was just afternoon sunshine on a late fall day. It was serendipitous moment in time when the elements came together and Mother Nature cooperated. Beautiful color, great natural light, perfect water reflections.Equipment
I used an Olympus E30 and a M.Zuiko ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II Weatherproof Wide Angle to Telephoto lens. There was no need for a flash and I did not have a tripod with me.Inspiration
The scene was so colorful and so peaceful, I had to try to capture the moment. Not only was the trip wonderful, there were many scenes that made me want to try to captured the essence of the mountains of Vermont.Editing
This shot had no processing. It is rare to get a shot that does not entice me to play with it in Corel. This picture was, to my eye, perfect and needed no changes. In my camera bag
I have retired my Olympus and now carry a Nikon D810 and a Nikon7200. I use a telephoto lens on the D810, usually an AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 G VR-FX. On the 7200, I will keep a Nikkor 14-24 mm f 2.8 AS-7. One of my favorite accessories is a hand grip strap instead of a neck strap. I usually have a monopod in my car. It doubles for a hiking stick and provides just enough camera stability. (Truth be known, I also carry tissues, chapstick, a cell phone, a whistle, and bear spray!)Feedback
For me, getting a good picture is all about always having a camera with me. I think that getting the best shot is about being in the moment and being in the right place. It takes patience and a willingness to swat bugs, stay still, and keep trying!
