Location
The photo was taken in in front of my house in Hamburg, Germany. I didn't need a great location for this idea. Just lawn and my treasure chest.Time
It was around 10 pm. My friend Julia (the model) and me had been out all day and were pretty tired. But she convinced me to shoot the idea at that evening nevertheless. Otherwise we would have regretted it the other day. And she was right. Thanks Julia!!!Lighting
Yeah! I placed a flash inside of the box. So the inside of the box would come out really bright and I wanted to have the light on her face and hands. It should look like the gold lights up the whole surrounding.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 6D, a Canon EF 24-105 mm 1:3,5-5,6 objective, a nissin flash with an air commander to place the flash wherever I want to.Inspiration
I like pictures that show an idea and go beyond reality. I like to add a little extra to it in post-production. One day I got the treasure chest as a present and since than, I wanted to do a cool picture with it. So I thought about a treasure hunt with lots of gold in it. And also I wanted to practise a little bit more with my new flash ligtht.Editing
Yes! I added the gold afterwards. It is just a creation in photoshop. And even though gold is shiny, it wouldn't have lightend up the whole surrounding. In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon EOS 6D, as mentioned above, and my Canon EF 24-105 mm. That's a good basic equipment to be prepared for all kinds of situations, people, landscape etc. The second objective, I always have in my bag, is my Canon EF 50mm f/1,4 USM. It is so great to shoot portrait and to work with really low light without using a flash. Also my tripod is always with me. I have a light and small tripod for traveling, I really love it and I never need to think twice whether I take it with me or not. In my camera bag there's also my remote control, which I use really often. I like to have a human in my photo and if I am alone, I need to get in front of the camea myself. And it depends whether I take my flash with me or not (if I want to shoot inside or in the dark).Feedback
For me photography is not just to take pictures of the things you see, but to take pictures of the things you feel and see inside yourself. So the most important thing is, to have an idea. Be creative! Be an artist! Transport a feeling! So think of ideas before you go out and shoot! I really love conceptual photography. This is what interests me in the first place. The camera equipment and technique is just second place.
