I am entirely undomesticated and once in a while try something new or interesting, this time I was caramelising orange slices for dessert. I had just gotten a new cell phone (LG G4) which I bought purely because of its manual camera functionality. While I was baking I was playing around with the phone's camera, seeing what it was capable of and the bubbles caught my eye.Time
This photo was taken mid-morning around July 2015, mid-winter in South Africa.Lighting
The stove I was working on is near the kitchen window which is big enough to let in a lot of ambient light, but sometimes not quite enough - as can be seen in the bottom right corner of the picture.Equipment
At the time I had no camera equipment, only a curious mind. I used only the manual camera function on my (then new) LG G4 cell phone. I used only ambient lighting and handheld the camera for the shot.Inspiration
I was playing with my new phone and it's camera functionality while trying to be domesticated. While I was waiting for the oranges to caramelise I was taking all sorts of shots around the kitchen, including macro shots. The bubbles in the pan caught my eye and I wondered if the camera would be able to capture what I was seeing with my naked eye. It did me one better ;)Editing
I cropped the shot into a square shape and only increased the contrast a bit.In my camera bag
I have little time to specifically go out to take photographs and so I tend to have a candid photography style. I still work mainly with my cell phone's camera as it is always with me. When I'm around others' DSLRs I tend to take over possession and photograph away. I recently received an older Sony Alpha as a gift, however I'm saving for a new camera and looking at mirrorless options. I'm looking forward to the day I complain that my camera bag is too heavy!Feedback
The best advise I give people who compliment my pictures (after I say thank you) is to identify what it is you are looking at in the scenery and try capture only that. When you take a photo that includes a lot of context, it's not easy to see exactly what it is that captured the photographer's interest. In the case of this photo, I took a macro shot of the oranges with the bubbles, because that's what I saw and what I wanted to show others, instead of taking a shot that included the stove, the pan, the oranges and bubbles.
