Behind The Lens

Location

Driving home one evening in the fall , I past this beautiful winery in Beamsville . Peninsula Ridge winery.

Time

Late in the fall the sun sets earlier and the colours are beautiful. By taking advantage of the perfect light and the beautiful surroundings, I took the shot.

Lighting

Lighting is everything, but for me photography HDR I really shoot in any situation. I took full advantage of this one and having my camera and tripod in the car was my lucky day.

Equipment

I only shoot with Nikon. At the time I had my d300s and my nikon wide angle lens. I really like the 17-55 f 2.8. It is really is a nice lens and very sharp. Shooting on a tripod I am able to use low iso. I have a manfrotto tripod with a ball head. I tend to shy away from flash so I really enjoy shooting HDR. You must have a cable release as you want to avoid any movement.

Inspiration

The colours and the way the sun was shinning on the old house which is home to one of the many wineries here in the Niagara Region. It just looked perfect, so how could I not stop and look around and take a photo.

Editing

The secrete to taking good HDR images is not to over process it and avoid the halos that give HDR a bad name. Done properly you can achieve great images. I really like photomatix and photoshop. and always shoot in Raw and with a tripod!.

In my camera bag

At the time of the image taken I only had one camera, a nikon d300s and only one wide angle lens. I do have other lens, but for landscape that is my go to lens. Now I have added a d750 fullframe and a 14-24 f 2.8. This is an amazing sharp lens and great for landscape.

Feedback

Follow your passion and make sure you take the shot. Don't pass it up as you can always delete later. Composition is everything and it does not matter what the camera is . Never give up and be patient. " Good things come to those who wait." Best of all, Have fun!.
