Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Carpathian mountains, Ukraine.

Time

I took this picture around 1 pm while my friends were sking I decided to take a walk back from ski resort to the little village where my friends and I rent a house. I looked at the gps for the route and it was about 6 km, but I got a little lost on the way and walked 10 km. Luckily I made it back before the dark, I was tired but happy with all good pictures I've got.

Lighting

In winter light up on Carpathian mountains usually is great. Its mostly cloudy which creates soft even light. The fog adds the mood and creates the depth in the picture.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 6 D, with 70-200mm f4 lens.

Inspiration

I was looking for the main subject for my picture. The lonely tree immediately attracted my attention. I often go backpacking and this place looks like a great place to set up a tent. But in this time of the year it looks like the tree is waiting for the spring to come when first backpackers start showing up and to have a great time and appreciating the beauty of the nature.

Editing

The light was very nice and even through whole picture plus the fog created some depth, so I just made some color corrections to this image.Loo

In my camera bag

I have Canon 6D and three lenses 50mm f1,4, 70-200mm f4 and lovely wide angle 16-35mm f2,8. Usually I take to the location two of those depending on the subject of my shot. Wide angle considered to be the best for the landscape, I love my 16-35mm lens. But this time I've decided to purposely limit myself and take only 70-200mm. I've got great "portrait" shots of landscape on that walk!

Feedback

Looking around for diversity of pictures and take a risk to go farther and you've planed is a good thing. I took this shot on vacation and could just stay at the ski resort with my friends, where I also got good shots. However it was a great idea to take a risk and go on a 10 km lonely hike on a mountain path. This way I got a bigger better picture of our trip.
