I took this picture in the pool of a resort in Maui, Hawaii on vacation this summer.Time
I took this photo at about noon the sun was directly above me.Lighting
This was an underwater shot, so I used the natural light of the sun, and tried to stay shallow to get more light into the photo.Equipment
I actually used a Fuji film underwater digital point and shoot to take this picture. I was enjoying spending the day with one of my best friends on vacation, and we decided we would take some underwater modeling shots!Inspiration
Everything about Hawaii is so vibrant, and colorful. I was inspired of feeling weightless in the pool as well as having no stress in the world. Maui has a very laid back essence to it. You feel like time doesn't matter, stress doesn't matter. You are simply there to enjoy the beautiful landscape and warm sun. I think this photo reflects all those feelings. No retouching, freckles from the sun, and hair untamed!Editing
No post processing was done. I really just liked the overall look of this shot.In my camera bag
Wow. My bag is always a horde of many things. I usually carry my Nikon D800, a 50mm lens, and TONS of memory cards. I also always carry an water proof point and shoot camera by fuji film to take to the pool or anywhere else adventure may take me. Lately, I have also been carrying around a tiny polaroid zero ink printer, and a instax Fuji camera because I love to be able to give people photos where ever I am. You'd be amazed at how appreciative people can be when they ask you to take a photo for them with an iPhone and you surprise them with a tiny photo to keep. That is what photography is about for me being able to capture special moments and give them to people.Feedback
Shoot, Shoot, Shoot, Shoot, the more you shoot, the more you learn, and try to capture how your eye sees something. If you don't have a model, use yourself! Get creative. Don't be afraid to take 50 photos for one amazing shot. You don't always have to have everything perfect, nor post process everything. Sometimes there is beauty in simplicity.
