Behind The Lens

Location

Midsummer’s day, a few years ago. Every year I host a Midsummer party at my place in a deep, vast forest in Sweden. Friends and family from all over the world gather for a few days to celebrate midsummer, life, nature, good food, excellent music and brilliant company. The photo is taken down by the lake a few minuts walk from my house. Located in a nature reserve, there are no other houses around the lake, nor any other people than frinds visiting me. We all swam to the island and spent the whole afternoon there. I took the photo when everyone started to get in and swim off to the island.

Time

Midsummer’s day, sometime after lunch. It was a really warm and sunny day and everyone went down to the lake to cool off, wake up and get energy for yet another dance session..

Lighting

Not much to mention about this particular photo. Bright, sunny day by the lake with a lot of light reflections in the water.

canon 5d mark3, canon macro 100, 1:2,8 is usm

Inspiration

The moment. I always enjoy catching the moment and this was such happy, relaxed and joyful moment, I could not not catch it...

Editing

As it was such a bright day, with lots of reflections in the water, the colours was a bit lame for my taste, so I decided to go black&white. With this photo, it really enchanced the photo, and captured the moment mich better than in color. The b&w brought out focus on the naked body in the foreground and made the photo much more interesting. Some slight adjustments were done, but that’s it as far as I remember.

In my camera bag

I do have a lot of different lenves and tripods, but rarely use them. I love the combination of my Canon 5d mark and Canon macro 100 (1:2,8 is usm) and nowadays, that is what I always bring, the camera and the macro lens, that’s usually all I need.

Feedback

It is all about seeing the moment. Can’t prepair for it to happen, but when it does, don’t hesitate. Take the shot! If people is in the photo, ask them after if it is ok to use it, but do it after, or the moment may be gone...
