This picture of 'Orange Lily' was taken in my garden at the back of my house in Manchester, England. I had been waiting for the day it fully opened and i came home from work one evening and there it was, pefectly formed and the colours were so deep too. I love to keep memories of things ive helped to grow.Time
It was taken early evening after id finished work. The sun was not beating down on the flower so i could get a good clean picture.Lighting
The only light i had was the evening light which didnt wash the colour out, to me natural light is good as there is always a way to enhance the lighting. I do like to blot out the background but on this occasion with the smartphone i used i was limited to what lighting i had.Equipment
I used my trusty iphone 5s as at that time that is all the camera i had. The settings it used for me were: aperture 11/5 Iso 32 and Exposure 1/289 I have now bought me a Dslr.Inspiration
Life inspired me to take this photo. We are all but a flower. We start from nothing, grow into something and live our lives to then wilt away back into the earth, just like a flower. What a great invention to be able to catch that process and keep it as a memory to remind ourselves that life means everything to everyone and everything.Editing
I try not to enhance my photos as i like the natural genuine photo. The only thing i do to any of my photos is maybe change the filter on the smartphone after i gave taken the picture. I do try and use the creative filters on the Dslr but it would only be to enhance the colour. In my camera bag
I take my iphone everywhere. In my Dslr bag i have my Canon 70d, 18.55 lens, 10.18 lens, 50mm lens and 2 spare batteries, and a spare memory card.Feedback
Ive found that everywhere i go i am always looking and thinking if anything can be photographed. There is beauty in everything just find the right angle. I find looking through the viewfinder as much as possible gives you a better view of things to shoot. I look at the clouds to see if my subject would be better in the sun, or the rain, wind etc. if you look hard enough it will come to you. I get funny looks from people when crouched on the floor just to see if the photo would look good. Never be embarrassed when out with your camera. I was at first but at the end of the day, you have a stunning looking memory for ever.
