Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in our apartment in the city of Kharkov Ukraine of my lovely wife Julia.

Time

It was late afternoon and my wife was feeling in a playful mood and just wanted me to photograph her and this is one of our favourites from that shoot.

Lighting

I had one flash to the right to try and loose some of the background and give that slight highlight in the shadowed areas. At that time it was a learning processes for me as I was quite new to flash photography.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 750D and a 50mm f/1.8 with tripod and one yongnuo of camera flash.

Inspiration

As photography is a hobby and a love of mine and my wife loves the work I do it was her idea to get a little saucy and have me take some photos of her, to use her as a model for me to practice with different lighting and to get used to the way everything works with the different angles of light.

Editing

Just a small amount of post because at the time even that was new to me so was uncertain of what to do. I must have done ok because it has won me 2 challenge awards now :)

In my camera bag

Now in my bag, Canon 5D Mark IV and a Canon 80D. Lenses are a Tamron SP70-200 f2.8 usd vc, Canon 24-70f/4L also a Canon 85mm and 50mm f1.8 along with the usual spare batteries, flash units, selection SD and CF cards plus cleaning kit.

Feedback

The only advice is keep practicing as practice makes perfect. As this was one of my early portraits of my wife I still have a lot to learn and with photography it is something that you will always be doing.
