The sunset effect (vibrant green grass, and red foliage) is somewhat lost being a B&W conversion, but I ended up processing this as a B&W first since it was for a challenge. Some day I'll process it in colour.
I did this as part of a set, which were my first ever B&W conversions. I did this using the excellent (and free-libre) GIMP since I don't use any commercial photo software such as PS-LR.
I realise there are 'pro' tools like silver FX out there, but as I know nothing of the art of B&W, I'm not sure what I missed in just using Gimp's channel mixer to do the conversion. These made a good showing (13th out of ~5300 entrants) - so I was pleasantly surprised and figure I must have done something right and there is perhaps no dark art to B&W after all.
