I was watching a pair of Killdeer Plovers sitting on eggs several weeks back. Once I get too close, the sitting bird will get off the eggs and squawk at me. It then tries to lead me away from the nest by dropping on its side and sticking its wing out. Apparently these plovers do this "broken wing" routine to lead predators away from the nest, it's pretty cool to watch.
Anyways, I got my photos and left them alone. One day the eggs were gone and several baby plovers were following their ma and pa around the parking lot where their nest was located.
I still hear them from time to time at work and sometimes spot one. I was lucky to have the opportunity to take the photos and see what became of the young ones afterwards. :)
