Behind The Lens

Location

Snowdonia, Wales UK.

Time

It was around midday, so not the best of times to be shooting, but this was a completely impromptu shot.

Lighting

This particular day was very cloudy (and windy) but as luck would have it, when Bob decided to jump up on to this rock, the sun peeped out from the clouds briefing. So the light was coming down right on to Bob.

Equipment

Again, as this was an impromptu shot, no tripod was used. At the time I was using the Canon 550D and the Sigma 10-22mm lens.

Inspiration

Stopping to rest my sore knee and to get out of the wind, I sat below this boulder. When I came to stand up, Bob was stood on top of the boulder, so my view of him was just as you can see in the photo. So of course I quickly set the camera settings and shot away.

Editing

Just the usual tweaks to the contrast & colours.

In my camera bag

Back in 2008, just my aforementioned camera and lens. These days, I carry two Canon 5DSR's, one with a 100-400mm Canon lens and the other 24-70mm Canon lens. I also, nearly always have a tripod with me together with a whole host of filters made by Kase.

Feedback

Just make sure you are familiar with both your camera and settings as in instances like this you need to act quickly in order to not miss the shot!
