Location
This photo was taken at Pass Lake, which is in the northern part of the state of Washington. This is around 1.5 hours from Seattle. I am a self taught photographer so every snap is a new lesson for me. Read on, if you want to know moreTime
I woke up at 4 AM at the camp, while my family was still sleeping, I came out. Although it was summer, but still cold during morning hours in this part of the world. So grabbed my jacket and started my car towards the straight Juan the fuca and he deception pass bridge. I still remember my hand was shivering while setting my camera on top of the tripod. Taken in late May 2016.Lighting
I wanted my viewers to look into this photo and transported there in their mind. That is why I wanted to capture the vastness of this place and how small we humans are from both size and impact perspective. The light was very important for this photograph. To see the mist and the floating cloud together, it was very important to take multiple exposure and compare which one is best and bringing in best lighting drama.Equipment
This was shot with my old companion Nikon D80 and the Tamron 18-200 lens.Inspiration
I was camping in a very popular state park - Deception Pass State Park. As usual during any camping, I woke up early in the morning, wanted to capture the sunset from the Deception Pass bridge. The plan did not work the way I expected. So I decided to move further in search of finding an interesting place which can give me the feeling of solitude. This was my find in that quest and the person fishing with the mist and the reddish gold color drawn me towards this amazing place.Editing
Usually I see landscape photographs with lot of processing. In this particular case, this is a single shot. I have not used Photoshop at all (still learning basics, so generally try to avoid). It is all in lightroom to change few things. I have modified the white balance to capture the mist. I added a gradient on top and increased the temperature to capture the moving clouds better and make it prominent. In my camera bag
The first thing is my Nikon D80 and Tamron 18-200 Lens. This setup has grown over me for the last 8 years. I have added an Olympus EM10 Micro four third in my bag recently which is with a 14-42 lens. I have added this based one of my friends recommendation. The third thing I have is the spare battery for both of these cameras. It comes in very handy. The forth thing is a remote shutter release for my Nikon. The last one is a small pouch with few memory cards. Believe me, it will be required some day.Feedback
Washington is a evergreen state with lots of unique characteristics. The weather changes dramatically in certain part. Although mostly stays cloudy 8 months of the year in the western side of cascades, it rarely rains heavily so you can always be outside. After a splash, the nature feels fresh. If you are looking for something like this, check the weather and try to be their very early in the morning. Check the sunrise time and plan accordingly. If you are looking for sunset or golden hour photographs in Washington, specifically near Seattle area, summer months are best time. For other times, i would suggest you to look for something different as your subject.
