Behind The Lens
Location
Arbeia Fort, South Shields, EnglandTime
June morning's misty North Sea fog shrouded the English row houses. Wrapped the Roman Fort. It jeweled the land, the trees, grass, and flowers.Lighting
The mist wanted to cover my lens. I hid it in my jumper as I crouched in the damp trying to find a compromise between background and jeweled bud.Equipment
Panasonic Lumix DCM-ZS100. Handheld.Inspiration
I have been a fan of Mike Moats' close-up texture work. When the fog shuts out the scenics, go small and close.Editing
Nik Filters in Photoshop to emphasize the textures and tones. In my camera bag
This was a "minimalist" trip. So I carried only one camera, an 11 oz Panasonic Lumix, and a smaller camera phone. I needed to cut weight for a 90 mile Hadrian's Wall walk. For other travel work; generally a Canon 50D with Tamron 18-270 zoom plus neutral density and circular polarizing filters. Very infrequently a full size tripod and remote trigger is brought.Feedback
Be sure the background does not interfere with the subject and FOCUS the subject well.
