This image is a vertical stitch of two shots, clicked in the pristine sacred groves of Mawphlang in Meghalaya, India. Sacred groves are forest fragments, which are protected by religious communities, and have a significant religious connotation for the protecting community. These groves have been preserved by traditional religious sanction, since the ancient days. The sacred grove has an amazing life form of plants, flowering trees, orchids and butterflies and is an ideal destination for nature lovers. Local people believe that the Sylvan deities would be offended if trees are cut and twigs, flowers, fruits, etc. are plucked. Religious belief is one of the major factors for conservation of plant resources in such groves.
