Behind The Lens

Location

On a staircase at the Metro North train station in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Time

Around 4pm.

Lighting

The low winter, late afternoon sun shined through the dimly lit stairwell, creating a very interesting pattern.

Equipment

Sony A99, Zeiss 24-70 zoom lens

Inspiration

The shape created by the sunlight was so striking, I knew I would be able to make a great image with it.

Editing

On this particular image, using Aperture, I manipulated the straightening, black point, and sharpening adjustments. I also adjusted the exposure, recovery, and RGB channel settings.

In my camera bag

Sony A99, Zeiss 24-70 zoom lens, Metz flash, Sony vertical grip (with two extra batteries) and lens hood.

Feedback

Try to get as close as you can to the composition you have in your head before you press the shutter. The more you have to crop later, the more resolution you will lose. Use the lowest ISO possible to create as much dark/negative space as possible.
