The public sculpture, CLOUD GATE, was created by Indian born artist, Anish Kapoor, It is called The Bean because of its shape. It was constructed between 2004 and 2006 and is located in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago, Illinois. It is made of 168 stainless steel plates that have been welded together with no visible seams. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet. It is the most extraordinary sculpture I have ever seen. It reflects the city and all of its visitors. Kapoor's contract states that the sculpture should last for 1,000 years. The lower six feet are wiped down twice a day by hand and the entire sculpture is cleaned twice a year using 40 gallons of liquid detergent.
