Thanks Geraldine. This one was a real sweety. He was left abandoned with his siblings in a hot apartment in the summer in Phoenix and the manager was going to send them to the pound, so I took them until they were old enough to find homes for them. I loved this one, but I already have 3 cats and 2 dogs and my husband said, "No more!" This little kitten always had the sweetest expressions. Thank you for your comment.

wow you won a lot of awards for this capture. How adorable is this little one. You were so kind to take these little ones in when they didn't have a home. I bet the grandkids loved them as well. :)

Location
I took this photo in a bedroom with the overhead lighting on. This kitten and his mother and siblings were abandoned in an apartment with no electricity and it was generally around 110 degrees at that time of year. The manager of the apartment complex was going to call animal control to have them picked up and I asked if I could take them to find homes for them. Luckily, I was able to find homes for all of them, but in the meantime I needed to keep the kittens until they were told enough to eat on their own. I'd play with them and take photos of them playing together.Time
It was in the evening when I shot this picture. The overhead lighting was on. This little kitten played so hard that when I picked him up and put him on my lap, he went right to sleep with a contented smile on his face. Luckily I had my camera right next to me, so I was able to capture that smile.Lighting
My goal was to get a photo of that smile, so I wanted to be close enough to feature it, but I also wanted to show his paws and how contented he was. I wanted the lighting to support the smile and the detail of the fur and paw pads.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, aperture f 4.0, ISO 400, Exposure 1/60. He was in my lap, so I just snapped it without a tripod. I always hold my breath right before I snap to get the camera to remain still.Inspiration
I love to take portraits of young children and baby animals. The expression on this kitten's face was precious so I couldn't resist.Editing
No editing done with this photo whatsoever. In my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon Rebel with a 18-55 mm zoom lens, a telephoto lens, a loaded back up battery, tripod, monopod and backup storage devices.Feedback
When shooting children and animals, I like to be on the ground at their level. I have a lot of toys and things to distract them from the camera. In this case, the toys wore this little kitten out, so I was able to get an expression of complete serenity.
