Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken about 30 minutes drive away from my house. This is Mow Cop castle, and it is one of the most beautiful parts of Staffordshire, England.

Time

This was taken at around 9:30pm if my memory serves me correctly. Just as the sun was dipping below the horizon to give this beautiful warm glow.

Lighting

I love using natural light, hence why I shoot landscapes in my spare time from college and shooting gigs. I love using the golden hour because it just differs from the LEDs bands use.

Equipment

For this shot, I used my D750, my Nikkor 50mm 1.8D and plenty of filters haha.

Inspiration

The fact that I just want to constantly learn and develop my skill. Usually I don't shoot landscapes so I wanted to make sure I got a fantastic shot.

Editing

Of course I edited the photo, but I only enhanced sharpness, colours and exposure.

In my camera bag

My bag is always packed, namely because I don't have a lot of gear. What's in it is, my Sigma 70-300 F/4 and my filters. And i never pack my camera because that's always in my hand. As well as my main tripod, I have a tiny one that can only be described as a cheapo gorilla pod.

Feedback

As I am still a college student, there isn't a whole load I can preach, other than the clichéd, just go out and shoot. However if you're looking for a shot like this I recommend having good quality ND filters and a good polarising filter (my personal choice is the Hoya). Top tip for capturing something similar to this is to make sure you have a castle you can put some where, haha.
