Such an amazing animal. Orangutans are so graceful and I was blessed to have caught this shot.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot at the Indianapolis Zoo in Indianapolis, Indiana. My son loves the Orangutans, so I always try to capture a picture for him. I was beyond excited when this fella climbed up and sat right in front of me!

Time

This shot was taken mid afternoon. Most of the other orangutans where playing and this guy decided he wanted to do some posing for a few lucky visitors!

Lighting

This was an indoor shot, the area behind me was not bright, however the orangutans live inside a glass "home" so there was quite a bit of natural light shining through.

Equipment

I used a Sony A6000, with a Sony E55-210mm, F4.5-6.3 Lens, no flash.

Inspiration

My son. He has a great love for Orangutans. He loves all Apes and Monkeys and collects them all. He happened to be at school the day I took this shot. I was trying to get a picture of the new baby orangutan and instead got this!

Editing

I didn't do much to this picture. Increased the exposure and clarity, cropped it down to ensure he was the main focus.

In my camera bag

While I am still fairly new to the photography world, I could not be more pleased with the camera I use. My camera bag has my Sony A6000, my Sony E55-210mm, F4.5-6.3 Optical Steady Shot Lens, my Sony SEL30M-35 30mm f/3.5 e-mount Macro Fixed Lens, my SELP1650 E 3.5-5.6/PZ 16-50mm Optical Steady Shot Lens and my Sony HVLF20M, MI Shoe External Flash.

Feedback

My advice is pretty simple. Remember that every shot you take is a chance to show something to someone in a way they have never seen it before. No matter what you shoot, shoot it with that thought in mind.
