Behind The Lens

Location

I took it at my house, outside on my porch in the backyard.

Time

Early morning, around 7 am.

Lighting

I really wanted the eyes to pop, originally this photo was in color and the eyes as well as the scarf were green. I pointed the face towards the light so the eyes would shine more and the background would sort of fade away to let the eyes still speak for themselves. I decided to make it black and white however, because I felt it added more mystery and let the eyes tell a story.

Equipment

I used my galaxy phone camera! I'm still not equipped with the more nicer cameras.

Inspiration

I took this photo during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. This is an important month for Muslims involving fasting, family, and worship. I wanted to show my religion and niqaab in a nicer and more beautiful light than what a lot of media tends to portray. Feeling inspired, this is what I felt brought out that positive energy.

Editing

I did edit afterwards. I used a filter to make the photo a greyish mysterious environment and I blurred the background to give sole focus to the eyes and the niqaab.

In my camera bag

I'm still only working with my cellphone camera and a lot of creativity!

Feedback

Try to bring out the eyes with good lighting. The most important thing I can say is make sure you're feeling inspired in whatever photo you're trying to take. It shows!
