Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a field outside my house. It's a huge field with birds and bees and it's a beautiful place.

Time

It was around 5am when I took this photo. I woke up extremely early and set off for a walk, it was a warm day and I was hoping for a beautiful sun rise and luckily I managed to capture one.

Lighting

I wanted my photo to reflect my mood. For example when I was out walking I was calm and the sunrise made me happy and feel warm, so when I took this photo I wanted warm colours and for it to show the lighting of the sun directly hitting the camera so it could show a calming and warm photo to express my moods, I do this with most of my photos.

Equipment

I used the canon 700D, lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 and that was all.

Inspiration

The mood I was feeling inspired me to take this photo. I love to capture emotions in photos and the feeling of being happy and warm and calm was my inspiration for taking this photo. I love being inspired by my surroundings for instance the birds singing and the wheat in the field reminded me of my home and I wanted to photograph a photo of what I felt like when I am at home.

Editing

Yes I did, when I took this photo the sun had reflected of the lens to make it unbelievably bright but with cropping, shadow and highlight and using the brightness and contrast tools in photoshop I managed to make the lighting calm down and make it a beautiful bright colour.

In my camera bag

I normally take my canon 700D, along with my lens which is EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 and I sometimes take a flashgun and a reflector sheet but that is mainly used for my portraiture photoshoots not my landscape as I do both.

Feedback

I would say you have to work hard. Don't think that if i wake up whenever and go out in a field and take a photo it would be the same, you have to wake up early, try different angles and experiment with lighting. No photo will ever look the same especially with landscape because the weather changes and a sunrise can be gone instantly if you are not fast at taking the photos. I would suggest making sure you get the right day as you want it to be sunny, don't be afraid to go on long walks and to try new things because trying a new angle or a new lens will make all the difference when you want to capture the perfect, similar image.
