This photo was taken one evening on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. I had received new lighting gear in the mail that day and HAD to test it out! I'm extremely lucky to have willing models at home and a beautiful landscape in which to work with.Time
My absolute favorite time of day is evening on the beach! Not only does Florida produce the most amazing sunsets I have ever witnessed, this is also the time of day when wildlife comes out, the tide comes in and beach goers normally go home (leaving me with the beach almost to myself).Lighting
I took this image with the thoughts of trying new lighting gear and the effect it has on beach photography. I had a family photo shoot on the beach the next weekend and wanted to be fully prepared! After many failed attempts to getting the "perfect shot" I ended up ditching the off camera flash and diffusor and used the natural setting sun to highlight those beautiful eyes!Equipment
This was shot with a Sony Alpha 6000 and a polarizer filter; no other equipment was needed.Inspiration
I was looking to get a dreamy shot with my two daughters walking along the beach with the sun setting in the background while working on perfecting my beach photography lighting. They were donned in flowing dresses and flowers in their hair. Eventually they got tired of me trying to "lead" them and I was able to capture this far off look of my oldest daughter - although I think secretly she was trying to ignore me ...Editing
The only post-processing that was involved was converting it to black and white in LR.In my camera bag
Of course I always pack my Sony A6000 in my bag! I have 2 sizes of lenses that I carry - always. I use either my 16-50 or 55-210 lenses, my filters (which include a ND8 and polarizer), a speed light, my 5-in-1 reflector set and little notebook and pen that my daughter encouraged me to always carry for spur of the moment ideas! Oh yes, and a spare battery - always a spare battery!Feedback
My advice to anyone wanting to capture something similar is to remember to go with the moment and don't push too hard to get the moment - it will come naturally when you least expect it. The harder you try to produce exactly what you want, the more difficult the shoot will become. Pay attention to those little in between moments when your subject is just being their self. Those are the magical - almost over-looked moments that produce breathtaking images!
