I love fishing, and the bug has rubbed off on my 4 year old son. During a working stint the little cottage we rented was within walking distance of a very nice pond that had a good amount of fish. So a few times a week after work I would take my son for an hour or so to fish to give mom a break. The place called Porterville in the western cape province of south Africa is blessed with just the most amazing golden hour sunsets.Time
The golden hour at sunset in Porterville is any photographers dream, it is pure gold an my absolute favourite time of the day to bring out my camera to play.Lighting
The sun was just about to dip beneath the horizon. the glow was spectacular and my son was for once in a pensive mood and actually sat still while I snapped away while he was wondering.......when will the fish bite? ( or in his own words.....when will collie carp bite dad?) The shot was taken facing into the sun and reflecting off the water.Equipment
When my son was about to be born we decided that in order to capture the rest of our lives with him in it we should buy something semi decent. I bought a starter kit Nikon d3100 package that had two lenses. For this shot I used my long nikkor 55-300mm lens. I only use natural light in my photography as I am still a very very new amateur that is still learning and getting to grips with the basics.Inspiration
The absolute magic light during the golden hour giving off that golden glow and my son that is very photogenic to me made this a most memorable photo opportunity.Editing
I shoot my images in RAW and I do play around in light room to help make the images look nice and acceptable for me.In my camera bag
I am still an amateur so the bag has a Nikon d3100 body, a nikkor 18-55 mm vr and 55-300mm vr lens. One extra battery and of late a tripod that is a recent addition.Feedback
The golden hour is your friend when you have limited equipment. Always have your camera handy, opportunities that present themselves don't often come around a second time. And lastly, you must have fun taking photos, it is what makes my photos great to me.
