Location
This photograph was taken of the Reno Cattle drive as it came into Reno, NV on the north side of town.Time
The photo was taken at 10:47 AM on June 15, 2016Lighting
It was fairly harsh late morning desert lighting.Equipment
Nikon D5100 with 18-135mm f/3.5-5 Nikor lens. 1/200th sec f/8.0 at 44mm ISO100Inspiration
I love the idea of the Reno Cattle Drive where participants can live the cowboy life and participate in an authentic cattle drive. This event kicks off the Reno Rodeo each year. I wanted capture the realism of the event without power lines or modern background elements.Editing
This is a composite image built up from multiple images of the event. The background plate was a panoramic image shot before the cattle drive arrived, the cattle and cowboy were pieced together from separate images and the sky was added from a different day altogether. I also added a texture to the image to give a little more gritty feel.In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D80 and a D5100 with several older Nikor lenses, a Manfrotto tripod and some Vivitar 285 flashes.Feedback
This is more of an art creation that I had pre-conceived before the event. I shot the background plate knowing I would use that so I could get a very large print while minimizing electric lines and poles. Then I positioned myself among the cowboys and the cattle to capture some good images to piece together.
