This photograph was taken in Eastern Washington near Cle Elum.Time
My mother and I were on a day road trip for a 24 hour photo competition. We drove to Eastern Washington from Seattle and got lost (not really lost) but wandering lost down great roads all over the area. This was a lucky mid day shot on a road that puts up Blue Bird houses.Lighting
I am a fan of natural lighting. It was bit overcast and had not control. I just hoped out of the car for this one sighting.Equipment
This was shot hand held with a Nikon 7100 and a 50-500 lens. I love my 50-500!Inspiration
For the last few years I have participated in a 24 hour photo shoot , "Longshot" hosted by Seattle's Northwest Photography Center. It has given me a fun way to shoot for a full day in places I may or may not have typically spent time shooting. It is also really fun to submit and see what others have shot from around the world.Editing
I try to do very little post processing. I did crop and some small boost but I prefer a very natural looking shot. This pushes me to work on my understanding of settings. It is a work in process. In my camera bag
I keep a pretty simple bag. That said living in Rwanda I do have two bodies now as does my husband. We are a Nikon family and have slowly been upgrading. We as of now have a collection of D7100, 7200 and D500. I have three lenses that I love a 24-70. 18-200 and 50-500. These usually cover my needs as we are mostly outside in the parks of Rwanda. I always have extra batteries and memory cards. Little is worse than missing a great shot in the park because you camera died or your memory card is full.Feedback
Take your camera with you. I hate when I miss a great shot because I didn't have my camera with me. Shooting wildlife and birds - be patient and set your camera to rapid fire. It always takes more than one shot to get the great one. Otherwise look for the unusual in the ordinary, color, texture and composition. Have fun, make mistakes and shoot more.
