While on holidays l took this photo at the Cairns Zoo. As l love animals l always try to visit no matter where l go. They have a bird show at which they displayed all the Birds of Prey and explained how they hunt to survive and their exceptional eyesight. They are amazing.Time
l took this shot in the afternoon, l think about 4pm . l absolutely love watching these magnificent creatures.Lighting
It was a little overcast this day but made it a bit easier for exposure on the white Barn Owl in flight.Equipment
I used a Nikon D700 with a Nikon 70- 200 f2.8 lense.Inspiration
I take every opportunity everywhere l go. If they have a zoo, l have to visit it. :) I just love animals and capturing them. l could sit and watch them for hours on end. One of the best things ever was seeing the Orangutans in their own environment in Borneo.Editing
The processing that was done on this image was to adjust the levels to add a bit more contrast. As the day was quite overcast the image looked a bit flat. I also slightly cropped to remove distracting background from the left hand side of the image. In my camera bag
Whats in my camera bag you ask....l have generally have 2 Nikon D700 cameras but l have recently purchased the Nikon D810. My lenses are all Nikon and consist of the following : 24-70 F2.8, 70-200 F2.8, 14-24 f2.8, Micro 60mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.4. l also have SB800 Speedlights and an LED on- camera Light.Feedback
Capturing animals is a challenge as they are unpredictable. With the correct Shutter speed you freeze the action and with aperture you can eliminate distracting backgrounds. This was shot at f4 1/1000s focusing on the birds eye/head. The challenge l find while panning is to keep tack sharp focus on the eye/head... l like movement in the wings as l think it adds to the story...So in short....Focus...Shoot heaps...practice makes perfect! ....and sometimes its pure luck :)
