Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while walking in my local neighbourhood, Salisbury, South Australia. I was inspired by the colours in the graffiti on the wall and the barbed wire fence in front.

Time

It was late afternoon, in the golden hour just before sunset on a clear winter's day.

Lighting

The sun was low in the sky, just before sunset, creating some beautiful golden light.

Equipment

I shoot with a Nikon 7200. On this occasion I was using my lensbaby composer pro with a sweet spot 50 optic.

Inspiration

I was walking in my local neighbourhood and taking the opportunity to capture some images of the area where I live. I was inspired by the colours and textures in the graffiti and wire.

Editing

I did a small amount of post processing - essentially just intensifying the colour a touch to recreate the visual I experienced at the time.

In my camera bag

I have only been taking photos with a DSLR camera for the last 12 months, so I generally carry everything I own in my bag! I currently carry my Nikon 7200, lensbaby composer pro and spark lenses with a range of optics and filters, Sigma 18-250mm, Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 90mm f2.8 1:1 macro and Nikon 50mm! I generally have my promaster light tripod attached to my bag as well. I also have a Tamron 150-600mm lens which I absolutely LOVE but gets a bit heavy to carry around all the time, so that only tends to come out when I specifically want a longer zoom!

Feedback

Given I'm still a relative newbie at photography, my only advice would be take your camera EVERYWHERE and don't be afraid to experiment. Often people think you have to travel a long way to find things of interest to photograph, but looking at your local environment in a new or fresh way can give you some fabulous results.
