Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Vimy Ridge in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. This was a memorial structure for The Battle of Vimy Ridge in world war 1. On the monument, this was on the back side of the memorial to represent the lives lost and the widows of the soldiers.

Time

This was taken in mid-June when my school took a trip to memorials that surrounded the world wars and the loss of the soldiers and family within the battles.

Lighting

The lighting for this photo was all natural as it allowed the most light to be in the photo and also highlight the best areas of the statue. It also gave a good background scenery to depict the height of the statue compared to the ground.

Equipment

For my photos, i don't have anything special. I typically use my iPhone camera to capture the images. This is usually because it is convenient as I always have my phone on me and also because I'm slowly saving up for a better camera to capture better photos.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the loss of the soldiers in the world war and also the effect it would have had on the families surrounding the soldiers. It also showed a lot of my inner feeling when I first looked at the sculpture and how much I went through when I was younger.

Editing

I didn't do anything post-processing except a few touch ups of the background which included cropping and applying a filter to gain the most effect of the colours in the photo.

In my camera bag

In my bag, i normally only have my iPhone and on that, some photography apps that help apply features to the photo and make it stand out more when in low levels of light.

Feedback

If you wanted to capture something similar to this, I would recommend that you keep an eye out and look at the different feelings you have towards a certain scenery. If you have a deep connection to the image, most likely someone else will have a similar feeling to it.
