Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken within a few minutes of my childhood home in rural Ohio. I have been self taught in photography and enjoy capturing nature any chance I can get.

Time

This photo was captured at sunset in Spring in rural Ohio. The setting of the lake makes for perfect conditions to capture nature’s beauty any time of day!

Lighting

I wanted to make sure to include everything I could within the shot. To give the viewer the ability to feel as if they are standing on the water themselves.

Equipment

I shoot with a Nikon D7100 and vary lenses based on conditions and length of each shot. No tripod for this shot, just laying on the dock to complete the shot from a lower angle.

Inspiration

This State Wildlife Area is just one of the many amazing parks and recreation areas my rural community and surrounding areas have to offer. As a child we would take school field trips and many family outings to these local nature gems. This remains one of my all time favorite spots to take in nature and capture its beauty.

Editing

I do not use photoshop or outside editing programs. I can crop and tweek all of my photos using the Nikon program that I received with my camera. It provides me with the basics I need while allowing me to challenge myself to capture nature in the raw and learn the rhythms of Mother Nature and her timing.

In my camera bag

I carry my late fathers Vintage leather camera bag from his time as a photographer everywhere! Inside you’ll find a remote, a small tripod, lenses cleaners and cloths, a waterproof bag and 3 lenses (a fixed 50mm, 18-55mm and a 80-200mm).

Feedback

Mother Nature has a timing to her beauty. After watching sunsets over an extended period of time you observe a small, only seconds long, window into which it all shines the brightest. That moment is breathtaking, just when you thought it couldn’t get better. Learn that moment, that patience and always appreciate that beauty.
