This is the edited version of the helical bridge reflection shot I took during a rainy Sunday. This version has the greens removed from the large building in the background and the water droplet effects on the lights of the bridge removed. The earlier version was to keep the image as close to the original as possible (I've changed the exposure levels and contrast on that one previously). I further enhanced the lights on the bridge with specific blue brightness as well this time.

This photo is taken at Marina Bay, Singapore, standing near the helical bridge (bridge in the picture)Time
It was taken around around 8-8:30pm, just after a slight rain shower, hence the puddle was thereLighting
The helical bridge is one of the iconic places at Marina Bay as it represents a strain of DNA. It's lighting colour range from white, blue and purple. The hotel in the picture gives 2 laser/ light shows every evening (first one at 7pm, second on at 8pm).Equipment
For this shot I use my trusty EOS 6D, fitted with my 17-40mm f/4 set at f/16. For my citylife night shots using light, i set my camera to manual mode and put it at iso 50 or 100 (depending on how much light there is). I believe the shutter time was 24 to 30 seconds. I make sure I have mirror lock up active and use a remote to release the shutter. For this photo I reversed my tripod and kept the camera upside down to get as close to the ground as possible! Fun shot to makeInspiration
I've been documenting the night scene of Marina Bay for a while now, but never had the chance after a rain shower. Funny enough, i was checking out an article earlier that week about a wedding photographer using a puddle of water as a reflection for the wedding couple, all the while standing in the countryside. The article was regarding getting dirty on the job sometimes. Luckily I didn't need to get dirty for this one!Editing
Apart from the usual post-processing, changing the contrast and work on lighting and shadows, I also had to remove quite a bit of green light on the hotel in the background. The reason was that at the time, there was a large Ghostbusters movie light ad on display, covering the entire building. In my camera bag
I carry my 6D with the EF 17-40mm f/4L, a sigma 50mm f/1.4 most of the time, but sometimes bring the EF 24-105mm f/4L along. I always make sure to have spare batteries and memory cards with me as well.Feedback
I always play around with different settings, setting the apperture high is a must, in order to get the star burst out of the light. Since it's dark I like to go low ISO and use long shutter times instead to get a clean (almost) noiseless image. Nevertheless, If you got your setup ready to go, you might as well try different settings while you are there. Since the memory cards are getting so cheap, there is no worry of running out of storage right? For these shots I do mentally set my target, I was just lucky it just rained that day. If you are looking for the puddle reflection shot, try going out of the house, geared up, while still raining (use rain radar information to see how long the rain will last) You might even get the chance to make a cool shot of the dramatic clouds reflecting in puddles as well!
