Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Robyn's bedroom at her home, mid afternoon in her bedroom there was a lot of good natural light coming in through her large window facing the end of the bed.

Time

We had been shooting for a couple of hours in various rooms of her house with many clothes changes and this image was taken around 3.50 pm with about an hour left to shoot.

Lighting

it was a generally clear sunny March day and there was a lot of good natural light coming into her bedroom, i had no soft boxes or extra lighting, only occasionally i experimented using the 'flip up' built in camera flash to sometimes add a little extra fill-in light.

Equipment

I shot this image with my entry level camera, a Canon EOS Rebel T5 using a Canon EFS 18-55mm lens. No tripod or any extras, just hand held utilising 'live view' at the back of the camera rather than squashing my face and glasses up against the view finder.

Inspiration

We had taken a series of images in her bedroom then stopped and she sat at the end of her bed relaxing, i looked at her and just saw an amazing look.....such a beautiful image i thought and asked her not to move!, the sunlight coming in through her window just bathed her face in natural light so i positioned myself so as not to interrupt the scene and took the photo.

Editing

I always put a new folder of images into my simple editing program CyberLink PhotoDirector 7 then look through and see if any need a tweak or if they could benefit from a special effect or just simply changing to b&w as i always shoot in colour, i always put my watermark on my images and usually the month and year taken. This image i thought looked even better with a soft effect on it which helped bleach out the background so the viewers eyes can concentrate on the beautiful main subject.

In my camera bag

My bag always has my Canon EOS Rebel T5 body, Canon EFS 18-55mm lens and my Canon EF 75-300mm lens. I also leave in my bag a Viltrox JY-120RX Wireless remote controller and receiver as you never know when it would be beneficial to capture without having to hold the camera. There is also a Studio series HD 0.43x AF wide angle lens 58mm, the bottom portion unscrews giving you a nice little Macro to screw onto your lens if needing extra close-up.

Feedback

I am not a professional photographer just a very keen amateur, i am constantly aware of my surroundings and try not to miss any opportunity to capture that special moment, i sometimes anticipate what might happen and like to be ready. So with this image, even though we had completed the set of shots we had taken i observed a stunning moment in time where the model was completely relaxed and not even trying to pose but had an incredible look, i saw this and captured that special moment in time that could never be repeated.....and that is what photography is all about....capturing a moment that will never be repeated ever again.
