Location
This photo was taken at a campground outside of Richmond.Time
I took this photo at about 9am. It was a gloomy sort of day, and so far my "weekend getaway" had not been going as planned. I saw this tree slumped over into the water, and commiserated with it.Lighting
When I snapped this shot, I wasn't really thinking too hard about light or composition; I was just taking the picture to remember the weekend by--something I would probably show a couple people who asked about the trip and eventually delete. When I went through my photos at the end of the trip, though, I was very excited about how it turned out! It wasn't black and white to start with, but with the reflection, I couldn't help but experiment. And, after seeing the result, I definitely kept the photo how it is seen now.Equipment
I used an older cannon (I can't remember the model). I was just passing through, so I didn't have any equipment with me. Just my point and shoot camera, and me. It was overcast and dreary that day, so I believe I amped up the exposure a bit, but that would have been all.Inspiration
It was a gloomy sort of day, and so far my "weekend getaway" had not been going as planned. I saw this tree slumped over into the water, and commiserated with it. At the time, I don't think I even really noticed the reflection. It wasn't until I went back through my photos after the weekend, that I noticed the symmetry!Editing
The photo was in color to start with. When I saw how well the reflection was caught, I had to see what it looked like in black and white. I love this shot in black and white because of the transition from the white bark to the black bark in the water. In my camera bag
I don't have much equipment yet. I'm saving up my money for some new lenses and perhaps a tripod, but at the moment, I just have my Nikon and the lens my parents gave me as a graduation gift.Feedback
Don't think too hard about it. If you feel inspired, take the shot and have fun! Some of my favorite photos have been purely from chance that they turned out so well.
