Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken whilst walking our dogs around the fields locally to where we live

Time

This was taken around the golden hour (around 5.00pm) during the late summer in the UK. I was trying out my 1st ever DSLR camera, a Nikon D3200 with my new 55-300 DX lens

Lighting

At this stage, I was very new to photography and knew very little about DSLR cameras with interchangeable lenses. I had read a little about " The Golden Hour" lighting and this coincidentally was my first experience of photographing in it.

Equipment

I was using my Nikon D3200 DSLR camera that was very new technology to me, have previously only had a kodak instamatic. As we were going for a walk around the fields with the dogs, it seemed a good chance to take my one and only telephoto lens, my Nikon 55-300 DX lens which was also very new to me.

Inspiration

My Boader Terrier cross dog had run ahead and I whistled her back to me. As she turned and started running towards me, I saw a chance of a nice action shot with good lighting which was a bonus.

Editing

I did very little post processing, mainly because I was so new to the whole photography processes and procedures at that time. From memory, I just cropped the photo slightly

In my camera bag

I tend to do a lot of wildlife photography. I have a large backpack that will take my D500 or D850 with my 200-500 Nikon lens and battery grip attached. I will sometimes take both bodies and my Nikon 300-f4 prime lens . I will also have a 1.4 Teleconverter in the bag just in case. If I intend to walk a reasonable distance, I will take my 3 legged thing Leo pro travel tripod ( will take up to 30 kg weight). If I want extra stability and not walking too far might take my 3 Legged Thing Frank tripod. I also like my 3 Legged Thing Monopod with the Doczii foot stabiliser.

Feedback

To be perfectly honest, I was very lucky to capture this image with very little experience of the equipment at that time. I would say to anyone , get out and practice, practice, practice whenever you have the time.
