This high steel superstructure used to be visible part of a elevator shaft for one of the largest coal mines in Belgium in Waterschei, Genk (B). As with most coal mines, this one was also closed many years go and transformed to a multifunctional site with cinema's, musea, shops, etc.... This elevator was refurbished and serves now as a panorama viewpoint. The architects added a circular staircase, which is visible in the left part of the photo. I shoot this picture a year and half ago, while I was experimenting with analog photography with a Mamiya 645PRO 6x4,5mm camera. I still like the results, but I was struggling with the slow and expensive process that comes with analog photography. This shot is all about emphasizing strong guiding lines which you can easily find in such a lineair steel structure and contrasts. The camera was placed in one of the main supporting columns leading the eye to the actual elevator shaft in the middle of the picture.
