This was taken at a local park in Watford as a self taught photographer this was something that helped me to explore different styles of photographyTime
So after a long day of walking with my best friend we were both tired and exhausted it was around 5:00 in the afternoon ,it was cold and miserable (typical English weather) and we'd both had enough for the day we sat down on a bench to catch our breath and that's when I saw it, the clouds cleared and a ray of sunlight shone through the cracks in the trees and i took the photo in an instants I didn't even look back. It was only a few hours later when I returned home and looked back at the pictures I had taken did I really see the beauty of the shot that I took.Lighting
With the day having been so gloomy I was really out to get some monochrome shots of the park but the way the light shone through the trees it almost seemed to glow as I took the photo I decreased the aperture allowing the camera to take in as much light as possible and that was it.Equipment
This was shot on a nikon d3100 using a 18-55 mm lens.Inspiration
Having been taking pictures of people and buildings I wanted to go out and explore different styles of photography. I don't know if it was luck or just good timing but when I took the picture I wasn't expecting anything great however when I looked back and saw it I was shocked it looked so different to how I remembered it the reflection in the stream and the overhanging branch that only just reached the surface of the water. I dont know what inspired me it was an instinctive shot i didn't think or ponder over it i just did it and sometimes that's better than sitting and planning and then it not turning out the way you want it to.Editing
like any photo sometimes it the little edits that make all the difference with mine, it was the case of reducing the light by a fraction so the reflection cake out more clear and then adding a bit more warmth to the image to give it that little edge.In my camera bag
I always carry a tripod it helps to stabilize my shots and allows me to take long exposure shots without the worry of having to keep my hands still for so long. I only have the one camera and lens but I do have a lot of memory cards sometimes you fill up a whole card without even realizing so its always good to keep some handy.Feedback
Sometimes you need to trust your instincts that's were you know what raw photography is really like. With weather and day light changing so quickly you have got to keep an eagle and always think outside the box it might seem different and strange but that's what sets you apart from everybody else its what gives your pictures that signature flair. If your going for something similar to this I would recommend summer or spring time only because of the lighting but you never know you might get lucky.
