The photo ist taken at the eastern ramp of the Hohenzollernbridge in Cologne, Germany, pointing at the great cathedral (Dom)Time
It was taken at noon, round about 6:45pmLighting
Nothing much to say about lightning, the sun was high an and a little in front of meEquipment
I used my Canon 7D Mark II and the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 zoom at 50mm. (love them both)Inspiration
Well, the combination of Dom and Hohenzollernbridge ist one of Cologne's most famous motives. Usually taken with a wide angle lens, standing close to the river. That gives always a kind of panoramic shot. I wanted to have a compressed view of bridge and Dom, so i went a little away from the bridge. The light wasn't perfect, the original picture shows bridge an church as silhouettes.Editing
Pictures like that are the reason I use to shoot in RAW mode. I used lightroom to shift dark and bright (a lot) to make details visible at both ends of the scale. It's a kind of HDR from one shot. I choose a quadratic cutout an finally i decided to switch it to black an white and gave it a nostalgic look by adding that sepia look.In my camera bag
My equipment recently changed a bit ... now I use to carry my 7d body, the 17-50 2.8 zoom, a 60/2.8 macro lens and a 70-200/4 zoom. Most of the times I take my flashlight with me, you never know and sometimes a small tripod. Of course some batteries, rags and a second cf card.Feedback
No special advice. Just look around you, train your eyes look at the world more precise as usual and you will find your special motives.
