Location
This photo was taken at a Park called "Jan Cilliers" in Pretoria, South Africa. It is a dog park where our recently acquired pup could run without her leash and just enjoy the worlds amount of space for such a tiny dog. As we walked around trying to find a space to leave our 'puppy bag', we came across this beautiful pond that offered so much tranquillity.Time
This was actually taken around 10am, late in the morning actually as the light is sharp during this hours. The shot was not planed as we decided to have breakfast at a place where Sandy (our pup) could join us.Lighting
My friend told me that shooting at sunset or sunrise are the best times and I agree, but this doesn't stop you from getting great shots when the sun is at its brightest. Play around with your exposure and find something to block the sun from directly shining into your lens (like the tree and the leaves in this shot).Equipment
Canon 1200d, with 18mm - 55mm kit lensInspiration
When I got to the park, I couldn't believe a public park could offer such a nice and clean spot and felt I had to capture the beauty Jan Cilliers offered.Editing
Dropping the highlights and increasing the shadows was one of the first things I did. I gave the yellows a bit more colour. The last trick I applied was increasing the exposure and temperature over the Sun just a bit.In my camera bag
I used to always bring my 70-300mm kit lens that came with my camera but soon realised its not very practical for the type of pictures I enjoy taking. I now only have my 18-55mm kit lens and a recently acquired canon 50mm f1/8 lens which I enjoy using a lot for portrait type pictures. I generally keep my tripod in the boot as well as I started picking up on long exposures and light trails.Feedback
Take more than one shot of the same thing. 4-5 if you have to. Once you imported it to lightroom (Or whatever programme you use), only then will you be able to see the finer flaws in your shots, so having options is important. Change your exposure now and then. Take a shot that's under exposed and over exposed, you will be surprised at the shot at times.
