Location
This photo was taken at a local walking path called the Rock Island trail and this location is in Toulon IL. We were here shooting photos for a calendar that is used as a fundraiser for a local animal shelter.Time
I took this about 4pm.Lighting
I only used natural light for this shot and the light spilling in through the trees in the background I think really helps this image.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D600 with an 85mm 1.4Inspiration
I really just liked the scene and the dog was being very cooperative and just giving me some great looks.Editing
I only did minor post processing adjustment contrast, clarity, ect. I did use Color FX to help tone down the green in the trees to give it a later in the day feel or even a fall feel.In my camera bag
I shoot mainly with a Nikon D600 and keep a few lenses with me 85 1.4, 24-70 2.8, 28mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8 and a 70-200 2.8. I normally have a couple flashes with me along with some pocket wizards.Feedback
Dogs are tough. They are always moving and when they meet new people they are sometimes on edge or just really interested in the new person. I always just keep things loose I don't try to over work or over command the dog. Be patient and you will get your shot and be willing to work within the dogs abilities. If a dog isn't trained to sit for 5 min while you tune your camera and lights don't expect them to do it because it's not a skill they have. Keep the owner calm, so many shoots I've been on the owner will get upset with the dog because it's not doing what they say and that negative energy is pushed on to the dog. My best shots come when I've given the dog space and just let it be it's self.
