Behind The Lens

Location

The shot was taken in Ravenshwood, Far North Queensland, Australia. Ravenshwood is a little mining town and the photo was taken on the camp ground of the town. Ravenshwood is famous for the clear night sky all year around. I love to do night shots and learn more about it with every photo I take.

Time

I took the photo on a camping trip to Ravenshwood, the town has many ruins and old mining gear which makes it a great photo destination. The photo was taken on June 15 2016 around 2am.

Lighting

I used ISO 1600 and no flash for this shot. There was another source of light from a camp site which just made it right.

Equipment

The shot was taken with a Nikon D3300, no flash and on a tripod with 30 seconds shutter speed and ISO 1600. I always set the focus on infinity as it is hard to focus stars in the night. There was another light source from a campsite which made it just right.

Inspiration

I always loved to take night photos of the milky way and I always look out for good foreground objects. The milky way just looks fantastic here in Australia, particular in the outback.

Editing

Not much really, I never do more then lower down the light and add more blacks to get a better contrast.

In my camera bag

Not much, I am a hobby photographer on a low budget, I have just a standard lens (18 - 55) and a (55 - 300) lens. I do not use filter yet but I want to, I am very interested in slow shutter speed shots. May with the next camera upgrade I hope.

Feedback

Just take what ever you have and try and experiment.
