Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a family holiday to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. The bridge connects the Jungfrau Camping ground and office with the Jungfrau Chalet, where we stayed.

Time

So far as I can recall, it was sometime in the morning. I just bought wifi access from the camp office and was returning to the chalet.

Lighting

It was a slightly overcast day, but the lighting was such that just enough of the bridge interior was lit up and draws you across.

Equipment

I got my first full frame DSLR as we left for Switzerland and was still very much coming to grips with my new Nikon D810 and 24-70mm f2.8 VR. This setup allowed me to shoot handheld in tricky light situations.

Inspiration

I probably crossed the bridge quite a few times before taking this photo, but this time the "obvious and everyday" looked somehow different and symbolized for me more than just a physical crossing, but also a connection of past and future, especially as this was a once in a lifetime family holiday with my brother and two aging parents.

Editing

I am low tech and still learning Lightroom; the only thing I did was to convert from colour to black and white (in camera).

In my camera bag

My trusty and very capable D810, workhorse 24-70mm f2.8 VR and for the smaller details in life, my 105mm f2.8 Micro lens.

Feedback

Don't underestimate the seemingly "obvious and everyday" - look at the world from different angles, while trying to tell a story and capturing a fleeting moment for future memory.
