Location
This photo was taken during one of the many hikes that me and my boyfriend did in Switzerland while we lived there for a couple of years. It's Milan on the photo and he's standing on the top of "The Dôme" in Les Diableretes, a beautiful and peaceful place in Vaud, Switzerland.Time
I will never forget this day, it was such an amazing experience to visit Glacier 3000 and to hike to the Dôme. It was a very cold day in November and we were high above the ground with a great view on everything that was surrounding us. Wild nature and massive mountain ranges as far as the eye could see. White snow covered parts of the peaks, but the sun touched our rosy faces, making us feel alive. We reached the Dôme around 3pm in the afternoon and that's when I took this photo.Lighting
I think since the light was already quite atmospheric, I didn't feel I needed to do much more with it. It felt as if the photo was already waiting for me up there, ready to be taken. Like a reward for having woken up before the rooster was awake, and gone all the way up there just in time to enjoy the afternoon sun and a stunning day. The light was already perfect.Equipment
We liked to discover new places in Switzerland each weekend if possible. That often included hiking a very long time uphill from a remote Swiss village, enjoy the amazing views and then countinue downhill to another little village from where we'd take the train back home in the evening, unless we didn't stay overnight in our tent. Having that said; I would only take my Fuji Camera finepix hs10 around my neck. That way I would have a useful camera but still not too much equipment since we prefer to go lightweight.Inspiration
It was unavoidable not to get inspired by the alpine world around us, and when Milan approached the edge of the peak, the sight was like watching a painting. We smiled and said it felt like we were on the top of the world. And I knew I needed to have Milan close in the photo, to bring out a feeling that says; even though we're small in this big world, we can still achieve things that means something great for us, individually.Editing
This photo was actually taken before I started to shoot in raw, because back then I didn't have a proper editing program like I do now. So basically I recently put the jpg file to my editing program to recreate the powerful atmosphere we had in reality. That was, bringing out the saturation of the colors and strengthen the clarity of the rocks and mountains. I also added a quite faint vignette to get a bigger depth. In my camera bag
I think that a big part of my interest of photographing appeared due to my love for being outdoors. I've always loved to be outside and there was a point when I felt that it would be nice to have my memories saved somewhere. So to be honest, I've never actually had nor used any camera equipments such as additional lenses, flashes, etc. One could say I've invited my camera into my outdoor lifestyle to at all times be able to capture anything, anywhere I want. The Fuji Finepix works perfectly for that purpose; it's competent yet convenient. The only equipments I've actually ever needed is an esthetic eye and the ability to see things from different perspectives. And of course, a tripod every now and then.Feedback
One thing that many of us probably can agree on, is that light is very important. This special afternoon, the light was gentle and the sun was fortunately not blending us. That way I didn't have to deal with reflections from the sun which sometimes can destroy a good photo... However, if there's people in the photo, then the mood means a lot to me. Like here, I made sure to shoot the photo right after we reached the top, while both Milan and me felt the most excited. It's about capturing the moment and the feeling, I would say.
