Behind The Lens

Location

This was a very exciting shot for me, I first saw this temple in a magazine 20 years prior to taking this amazing trip and actually seeing it in person. This was taken in Kyoto, Japan, the title is the Golden Temple officially named Rokuon-js a Zen Buddhist temple. This world cultural Heritage was built in the 14th century it is found in the center of a 132,000 square foot garden, the pond allows for amazing reflections. I was awestruck and even in the rain my husband was so patient while i captured this image!

Time

Like many of my trips they are on the FLY! So this was no different, only one day to tour as this is a work trip. We headed out at 5am to meet our tour (raining of course). After a 2 hour drive we arrived in pouring rain, as we turned a corner to enter the garden area the sky cleared. I had about 15minutes without rain to capture this photo. I took this about 9am such a fantastic day.

Lighting

As the photo shows an overcast sky there was a hint of sun breaking through the clouds which gave me the prefect light to show the beautiful golden hew of this temple.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 60D using 18mm-135mm lens, hand held with natural lighting.

Inspiration

20 years prior when i first saw the magazine photo, I then said I love this place and one day I will visit there and take my own photo. How totally exciting when I stood in front of this temple and showed my husband the magazine photo I had kept of my phone all those years. So cool to press delete and enter my own photo!

Editing

I usually shoot in J peg as it is impossible to find help with Raw here in the mid-east. I use a Mac Pro Retina and tend to use the basic enhance on I-Photo, I do my best not to adjust my photos to much.

In my camera bag

My Bag hmmmm. well I would like to say I have all these crazy things ... truth is I find it all so heavy that I tend to carry my Canon 60D camera with a basic lense18mm/135mm lens a tripod if i'm local only other thing would be my canon 300mm zoom when on safari.

Feedback

Take several photos and don't be afraid to adjust your settings I think i took about 30 shots here this saves on post processing, and take your time once in a while it pays off.
