I took this picture in 1976 during the 17th South African National Antarctic Expedition of which I was a member. Please pardon the quality of this image - the original image is a transparent slide, so this is a scan. The images were captured on 35mm transparency film. The film was developed on location, 30 feet below the ice, where we were based for 14 months. Water for mixing the chemicals and washing the film after development, were obtained through melting snow and then distilling the water. The film was recently transferred to digital. The 14 months I spent on this Expedition (both the place and the time spent there) was a life changing experience to me.
