Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at my old apartment in central Kyiv, just a short walk from Maidan.

Time

This was a daytime shoot in the apartment. I had a lot of natural light coming in through the windows which I moderated with the frosted glass dividers in the bedroom.

Lighting

As well as natural light, I had a couple of octoboxes as fill lights.

Equipment

This was taken with my trusty Canon 70D and a Sigma 17-50 f/2.8.

Inspiration

Anastasia is a very beautiful girl and she wanted some shots that were sexy but tasteful for her portfolio. We did a bunch of different outfits and locations around my home studio. This was one of her favourites. It kind of recalls the famous Pulp Fiction poster with Uma Thurman.

Editing

Not a lot with this. It went through some basic Lightroom edits but I didn't change a lot. I tend to prefer a light touch with editing.

In my camera bag

I usually shoot analogue so I'll have a supply of film - Portra 160 as a colour option and Fomapan for B&W. If I'm shooting medium format, I'll have my Arax, a Leningrad 2 lightmeter and a couple of lenses - I generally have the Volna 80mm f/2.8 and a Mir 45mm f/3.5 on hand. I'll also usually have a 35mm camera too - often a Spotmatic F or maybe a Kiev rangefinder.

Feedback

Find a good model, move around and see what works. If you have the space, set things up in different locations, don't limit yourself to one area or just to in front of a backdrop.
