Behind The Lens

Location

This image was made at the Viera Wetlands refuge, in Melbourne, Florida.

Time

Time image was made was approx. 7 a.m.

Lighting

Used natural lighting with a low sun angle.

Equipment

A Canon 7D w/ Canon EF100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L series Lens. A Bogan Monopod was used for stability.

Inspiration

The Viera wetlands offers a wide variety of wading birds as well as alligators, otters and deer. On this particular morning my primary interest was mating Great Blue Herons when I came upon this stately fellow. The morning was chilly so this Great a Egret was just standing huddled up in the Northery breeze.

Editing

Minor post processing was applied for color correction and some sharpening to highlight feather detail.

In my camera bag

Currently my equipment has changed as I do more portrait work than wildlife. I still use the Canon 7D (1st generation), canon’s EF 28-135mm and Canon’s EF 10-22mm. I also have a Canon EF 300mm f4 L series that I use for some aviation photography.

Feedback

Patience and practice with every image you make!
